Walking in His Grace

come what may

Work’s been pretty relaxed for me this week. Spending most of my time in front of the computer browsing pointless and useless websites, playing Temple Run (read: addictive), doddling, and also, thinking about my future. Yeah, I’ve been very slack this week. BUT only this week! And thus, only left with today gahhhhh. It’s for the better.

So, yeah, thinking about my future. Damn kiasu right? Pfffft.  But the more I thought about it (have been thinking + drawing up a timeline etc.. now I think I’m super lame), the more stressed and worried I get, and so I stopped bothering about it. And threw my so-called timeline aside. Only aside, not away, because it may come to use one day. Hur hur.

I’ve come to realise that nothing is predictable.  You could plan to finish your training (in my case lah), get married, earn this amount, buy a house and make it a home (darn huge investment), maybe migrate, have kids etc at different stages of your life, but this is only planning, it may not happen the way you want it to. Events may happen along the way, hindering you from finishing what you started or even start pursuing it, got to think for the other half (if you’ve got one), money, and how to do it to the best of yourself and your family. I’m not saying we shouldn’t plan, it is good, at least you have a mindset of what you want to achieve. I’m just saying things may happen differently!

I think people who have a good career, a family, are healthy and lives comfortably are like superheroes. I don’t know how they do it. I’ve always wanted kids and take care of them full-time when they’re teeny weeny, but now I think about the PAIN I have to go through (maybe x 2/3/4?!?! don’t get me started. I WILL have epidural no excuses), the money I need to use, the loss of income if I drop my career (for the time being), how to be a BETTER person for new VIPs in my life!

I really don’t wanna grow up. Why do we have to worry about so many issues?

I’m just gonna leave this thought aside and procrastinate. Maybe I’ll find my solution as the issues come lol.

I’m just whiny, I guess.

how!?

arhhhhhhhhh should i get these!?

*dilemma*

HAPPY CNY 2012! JANICE IS 24 THIS YEAR GASP!

Flew off to Dunedin right after I knocked off night shift on Friday morning! #happiest day ever. Flight was at 4pm, shuttle was coming to pick me up at 3pm so I thought I might as well stay up and watch some Big Bang Theory and pack my luggage.

LOL long story short eventually I fell asleep la (no surprise), but only for half hour though cos the shuttle came to pick me up!

Had such a lax time in Dunedin – it was total NUA-NESS I tell you. Uber love. Everyday wake up, have coffee, watch some telly, watch James play some PS3, lunch.. Dinner.. Supper.. HAHAHA.

Ideas initially planned for the CNY weekend all fell through HAHAHAHAHA, like baking with Jon, going to Chinese Garden to watch fireworks, sing K. HAHA. BUT STILL A GD BREAK I THINK!

Pictorial below! Have a good CNY y’all! Only wish I was in Singapore to celebrate it. This is very possibly my 6th year not celebrating CNY back home I MISS PINEAPPLE TARTSSSSS~ The only ONE I tried this year (or even the last few years) was when I was shopping with Stephie @ Taka. There were free samples and she got like 200 pineapple tarts for her family! YUMMERS~~~

P.S. LOL, yes my sis is born in the year of the dragon and she’s gone through 2 cycles now and so.. she is 24yo this year omgomgomg. We are all getting olddddddddd~

ciao!

OKAY, BYEBYE!

NIGHT SHIFT… FTW?

It’s nearly 12 midnight and I’m here at the hospital!

That’s right, it’s night shift for me this whole week, and it’s night 7 of 7 tonight WOOPIE!!!!!!! :)

Anyhoo, God has been gracious. My most feared shift of all time is actually going great. Nothing major has happened and the kids have been very good. So thankful for the awesome paediatric nurses, they are simply the best. Was fervently reading through the advanced paediatric life support folder (which is nearly 300 pages long!) in the last couple of days, just in case anything serious happened to the kiddies. On the bad side, I probably should be waiting to see some good interesting cases while on this shift so I can be more prepared in my next lot of night shift in 6 weeks. Mm, I’ll just see what comes. :)

So whilst on my night shift, I’ve actually managed to waste make use of my time doing a couple of things, and here’s what I’ve been up to!

  1. ONLINE SHOPPING

I tell you, this is probably the WORST thing that I should be doing!!! I’ve bought a total of…

- 4 items from Gipsy Scarlet (OMG I didn’t know they have such pretty clothesssss!!)

THE MODEL IS DAMN CHIO LOH. LOL.

- 3 + 2 items from Love Bonito (I know, on TWO separate occasions I’ve bought a total of 5 items :\)

- 1 item from Her Velvet Vase

- 1 item from Oh So Fickle

- AND COUNTING………. Who knows who’s gonna launch tonight!

IT IS MADNESSSSSSSSSSS.

I haven’t bought too many in sucha short span of time for the loooongest time because the blogshop launches are usually around evening time in Singapore, that makes it about 12-1am here in NZ. So, yes, I’ve been sadly missing out on launches, although not entirely, particularly the camping and F5ing bit!

Which reminds me, I was camping for OSF’s launch wanting to get 3 items looking at the preview the night before! AND I ONLY MANAGED TO GET ONE ITEM. SADNESSSSSSSSS. Anyway, moving on.

2. TWEETING AND WHATSAPPING ++ (and blogging! like now!)

Honestly, this night shift has been different from the previous ones that I’ve done (Gen Med, Gen Surg). We are expected to keep ourselves awake just in case we miss pages/we’re too groggy to see a super sick child. So yes, I’ve been staying up for most of my shifts (except once when I dozed off for like half an hour! I actually feel abit bad, but thankfully it was a quiet night!).

So using this time I’ve been tweeting abit more and because most of my twitter friends are in Singapore (YOOOHOOOOO!), there’s more interaction rightrightright!?

*Pause. Just had a call from ED for some advice for a kiddy.* Back now!

So yeah, I think I just like talking too much. And being on night shift does make you slightly, no, VERY socially isolated. I normally get home by 0830, sleep till about 4-5pm (EXCEPT FOR TONIGHT I GOT UP AT 8PM WHAT!!!!!!), have dinner, sleep abit more, work, and the cycle repeats x7. And so, virtual interactions have become super duper important!

*Just got back from Emergency! 1 new admission *

Okay I think end of section.

3. READING

You know, I’ve never been a HUGE reader. I never used to like reading at all as a child. Dad used to force sis and I to read during our school holidays and expect us to write a summary about the books we’ve read. Not a huge fan, ay. And so when it was time to submit our ‘homework’, I just copied the blurb on the back of the book and gave it to my Dad. Either he thinks it’s FOR REAL, or he’s just letting me off, for like 10 years. HAHAHAHAHA. He probably doesn’t read it, he just wanted to ‘motivate’ us to read, that’s all! So I taught my sis this sneaky trick too. LOL.

So I actually started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy since last year. Very interesting, I must say. I finished the first 2 very quickly, and before I left Singapore in Nov last year, I got the last book hoping to finish it while I’m here in NZ. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to a year. HAHAHA. So this book has literally become my ‘plane book’, i.e. I only read it when I’m on a flight to somewhere. Probably cos the 3rd book only got more exciting at the end, I didn’t have the same urge to finish reading it within a couple of days. So yes, I FINALLY FINISHED READING IT WOOHOO!!!!!! Now I can go watch the movie.

Speaking of the movie, I’ve watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that was filmed in Swedish – super disappointed in the movie, I must say. Emphasised on the WRONG scenes, should’ve chosen a more handsome Mikael Blomvist (I’m sorry, but he was portrayed as a good looking 40+ man but I cannot imagine falling in love with that guy in the Swedish film) etc. And so didn’t watch the other 2. Truth be told, I think Noomi Rapace played Lisbeth super well!!! And now there is hope! They’re using Daniel Craig as Mikael in the English version so that’s one good point! :) I hope it won’t be as bad as the Swedish one otherwise I’d be super sad. :(

EEW BJURMAN GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mmm, yes I think you would be a yummier Mikael HAHAHA

I’ve also started reading my life application bible! I’ve been reading it on and off while reading my bible for further reference but nothing too detailed. Only started this yesterday though. I must say I’m learning so much more with all the detailed reading! Thank God. :)

4. Dazing

I know, I’m so good at it, I tell you!!

5. And of course, working

HAHAHA, what? You know I very free ah?

OKAY END OF RANT BYEBYEBYEBYEBYEBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helllooooooo

It is when I’m bored that I think about this space of my own.

So, I actually got the job in Wellington (smileeeeee). They emailed me sometime in September that they had a vacancy and I took up the opportunity immediately!

Went to melb w L and melb hasnt been as pleasant as how it was in my prev 2 trips. Lets just say we felt v cheated at the end of the trip – from the hotel standard to our lunch provided by the great ocean road tour! Boohoo.

Anyhoo, I’m into my 4th week of work now. Paeds is v different from what I remembered it being. Pray that I get used to looking at freaking rashessssss and doing super thorough exams.

Pictorials to colour this blog once more :)

Time for bed :) it’s been a day of 100% laziness and i am super proud of it hahahah.

Lord, help me. Why is it that I’m always swaying…

JOBBBBBB.

So… I didn’t get a job in Wellington, which I kinda suspected too.. SO many PGY1s got positions there, and according to them, ‘high staff retention’, which I can completely understand why. Wellington’s a great place to work in.

Does this bring us into our 2nd year of long distance? I mean, we’ve done this for nearly a year now, should I assume that we’ll be fine? Few of my friends have been there, done that. Some have been successful with their LDRs, others didn’t. I think stats wise it’s 50%-50%! That’s not helpful, is it?

Lydia and sistel say I should email Welly again. Hmm, maybe I should, won’t hurt me anyway! Plus I put in so much effort into my CV, cover letter, references, would be a waste if I just left it like this.

Why am I blogging everyday now. Maybe I like talking to myself? Lol.

read this.

Counselor James H. Olthuis writes,

“To try to keep love just for us … is to kill it slowly …. We are not made just for each other; we are called to a ministry of love to everyone we meet and in all we do. In marriage, too, Jesus’ words hold true: in saving our lives we lose them, and in losing our lives in love to others, we drink of life more deeply.”

take time to read this : )

HOWDY!!!

And so I’ve abandoned this blog of mine for CENTURIES.

There’s instagram, fb, twitter, WORK. You get the picture.

And now.. Whilst I’m on a week of break off work (woohoooooo) and getting bored off my arse in Wellington, I decided to write a post here.. Just for the fun of it, because I don’t know when I’m gonna update my blog again. :)

List of what to do for the rest of my trip here:

  • GETTING MY COUNTRY ROAD SHOESSS. These are the most comfortable heels I’ve tried on!!

  • Go to manna bookshop
  • Do some pilates or go swimming
  • Cook James some eggs. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Nah, cook dinner tonight!

  • Go check out Forever New at Queensgate (awesome shop gurls if u haven’t realised!)
  • Finish season 1 of 90210 (which i just did..)

  • More yumchaaaaaaaa

THE END, LOL. The mundane life of jess.

But it’s better than nothing, right?

Highlights from where I left off till present:

  • Thoroughly enjoyed my 3month overseas elective! Sydney and Singapore. Went on grad trip with 2 of my buddies to Taiwan and HK! And they came over to Singapore too!

  • Got my full licence after coming back from elective!
  • Graduated and started work in Auckland in Nov last year woohoo!!!!

Work’s been okay, but I’m really trying very hard to grasp the fact that on-calls are part of the job and it’s an opportunity to learn. I guess it’s just pager 1815 that COMPLETELY put me off working in a hospital. The 30hour weekend was an absolute killer – on my feet the whole freaking 30 hours, page after page after page (…), no lunch x2, no dinner x1 + veryveryvery rushed dinner x1, 8am start the following morning. it’s MADNESS. And now that I’m on my last 2 weeks of my Geriatric run, I am totally dreading my Gen Surg run. I really really hope the Gen Med runs + Geris run are gonna help me with it.

And the other thing is, applying for a job. James’ been working in Wellington for half a year now, and seriously, LDR sucks. We’ve been flying up/down nearly every other week it’s burning our pockets. So I’ve applied for Wellington and I’m waiting for their reply either today or tmr. I like Wellington, apart from its weather (windy+++), and the hospital’s great. I eagerly await for their reply!!!!!

  • Got baptised! :)
  • Went to Bruno Mars concert IT WAS AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! He’s awesome live!
  • Got into a pretty serious car accident
  • AND… It’s 2 days post National Day, and damn, I miss home. Thinking of heading home in January for 3 weeks for Chuns’ wedding and CNY if possible. Craving for lotsa local food, especially chai tau kueh! And this reminds me of this video clip from The Noose, ultimate joker man.

Till my next update!!! :) otherwise, catch me on FB/Twitter/instagram K!! :)
